The VA, in recognition of the problem of veteran homelessness, created a program called Supportive Services for Veterans Families (SSVF). TLS Veterans was awarded a VA grant to administer this very useful program in Kenosha county in WI and Lake, McHenry, Boone, and Winnebago counties in northern IL.
The SSVF program provides supportive services to very low-income veteran households. It is designed to be a housing first program to assist literally homeless veterans get back into permanent housing. This is called rapid re-housing. The program also assists to prevent homelessness for those at-risk of becoming homeless.
Financial assistance could support the following:
- Emergency Hotel Voucher
- Security Deposit Assistance
- Rental Assistance
- Utility Assistance
- Car Repairs
- Child Care
- Moving Costs
