Veteran Support

In addition to basic support, at times what benefits veterans and their families the most is support in connecting with other veterans and veteran families.  Veteran peer-to-peer support is inherently part of all programs, but is the primary service offered by three specifically: Drop-in Resource Center, Outdoors Program, and Legacy Corps for Veterans and Military Families. Each program is staffed by veterans or one-offs such as spouses of veterans who can provide compassionate lived experience.

What does the Legacy Corps for Veterans and Military Families program offer?

The agency partnered with Legacy Corps for Veterans and Military Families, an Americorps program, in 2018 to become just one of 14 sites in 9 states. The Legacy Corps for Veterans and Military Families provides caregiver and veteran support services by and for veteran and military families.

Services are designed to decrease the caregiving burden and stress and empower the caregiver and care recipient through education and community resources to maintain and improve their quality of life.  Services are also provided directly to veterans for peer support, nutrition assistance, etc via the Rockford office.
